QUETTA: Fourteenth session of the Balochistan Assembly (BA) is going to take place on January 4th in which the newly elected member of the provincial legislature Tahir Mehmood of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will be sworn in as a new member of the 65-member house.

According to the official resources, Governor Balochistan Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi has summoned the 14th session of the Balochistan Assembly on January 4th. The meeting will address official matters on January 4th while discussion on official and non-official matters will take place on 7th of January. The Balochistan Assembly session will discuss official matters on January 9,12,15 and 18.

During the upcoming session of the Assembly, former education minister Shafiq Ahmed Khan’s young brother, who was elected as a member of the Balochistan Assembly from the electoral constituency of PB-1 Quetta with overwhelming majority in the by-elections held last week, will be sworn as a newly elected member of the highest legislative body of the province.

Shafiq Ahmed Khan, the ex-education minister, was gunned down in Quetta outside his residence by the Baloch Liberation United Front in order to avenge the murder of Baloch leaders Ghulam Mohmmad Baloch, Lala Munir Baloch and Sher Mohammad Baoloch.

The upcoming debate in the Balochistan Assembly is likely to be dominated by the affairs related to the recently unveiled Balochistan Package and consensus reached by the provinces and the federal government on the National Finance Commission   (NFC) Award. The Balochistan government is viewing the Balochistan package and the inking of the landmark NFC award in Gwadar as a major success that indicates improved relations between the province and the central government.
