Five detained in Quetta over kidnapping for ransom

QUETTA, Dec 15: The Quetta police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested five accused persons wanted in different cases of kidnapping for ransom.

Addressing a press conference, Deputy Inspector General (DIG-Operations) Quetta Shahid Nizam Durrani said that incidents of kidnapping for ransom had increased in provincial capital that was a matter of great concern for the people.

He said that police after making efforts arrested five accused persons including Wahid Bakhsh alias Mama, Noor Ahmed and Master Rahim and recovered pistols, vehicles and amount from their custody.

He said that they had abducted the owner of Ghazi Steel Mills and had demanded Rs 50 million for his recovery.

DIG Operations said that police also rounded up another gang which had abducted a person from Dasht area and had been demanding Rs 70 million for release of kidnappee.

He said that police recovered abductee from Killi Kamalo and arrested accused Muhammad Zafar and Sher Ahmed alias Shera while police was conducting raids for the arrest of their other accomplices.

He said that police was making all out efforts for the safety of citizens and their property.

To a query, he said that killers of Shafiq Ahmed Khan former Education Minister had not been arrested so far while police was raiding different areas to arrest the culprits.

Responding to another query, he said that close circuit cameras had been installed in different parts of the City while eight thousand personnel of police and Frontier Corps would be deployed to monitor the law and order situation on the eve of Muharram-ul-Haram.
