Muharram processions appear in Quetta

QUETTA: Central procession of mourners regarding Ashura of Muharramul Haram appeared from Punjabi Imambargah, Alamdar Road Quetta here on Monday while over 6000 personnel of paramilitary and police have been performing their security duties to ensure protection to mourners, citizens and public property.

The Ashura related central mourner procession which appeared from Mominabad, Alamdar Road marched through Alamdar Road, Quaidabad Road, Toghi Road, Mizan Chowk and Prince Road and later concluded at (Shiite mosque) Imambargah Alamdar Road where Shame-e-Gharibaan and majalis were held.

DIG Operation Quetta Shahid Nizam Durrani has said that over 6000 security men belonging to the Frontier Corps, Balochistan Constabulary and Quetta Police had been performing their security duty.

On the route of the central mourner procession, close circuit cameras have covered the procession at 20 points and several walk through scanner gates have also been installed. About six special counters have been set up to monitor the processions.

Paramilitary and police personnel have been patrolling on routes of the mourner processions and main arteries of the city. They have also guarded the roof tops. A brigade of Pak Army remains standby to avert any emergency like situation. A helicopter is also carrying out space vigilance of the mourner processions routes.

Arrangements have been made to serve meal, beverages and milk to mourners flailing themselves to pay rich tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S), the Grandson of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W) who along with his family had laid down his life in the name of Islam. According to Home Department officials, in Quetta city, six of total 54 Shiite mosques (Imambargahs) have been declared very sensitive and 17 sensitive while few other places where Azadari majalis are held also declared as sensitive. No person is being allowed to enter Imambargah or join the processions until he walks through scanner gate. No vehicle is allowed to be parked near Imambargahs and the processions. The Imambargahs and majalis spots which are declared sensitive regarding security located in localities include Marriabad, Alamdar Road, Satellite Town, Hazara Town, Maikangi Road and Barori Road. Quetta police is also providing security to the mourner processions who are joining Quetta processions from other cities or adjoining areas to express their deep sentiments and aspirations with martyrs of Karbala.
