Senate Deputy Chairman demands opening of doors for Hairbyar Marri and Bramdagh Bugti

USTA MOHAMMAD: Deputy Chairman of Senate Mir Jan Mohammad Jamali wondered on Monday that if the country’s doors could remain open for Mian Nawaz Sharif and late Benazir Bhutto then why they should be shut for Nawabzada Hairbayar Marri, a son of veteran Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Khair Baksh Marri and Nawabzada Bramdagh Bugti, the chief of Baloch Republican Party.
Talking to journalists, Jamali recommended the formulation of a truth and reconciliation committee in order to probe the murder of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and other incidents that widened the gulf between the provinces and the center. He said the situation in Balochistan had deteriorated to such an extent that it could no longer be resolved with economic packages only.
“Balochistan’s dispute is over ownership on its natural resources. Until the Balochs are made the masters of their resources and their destiny, the situation in Balochistan is not going to normalize,” he said.
He suggested the government to open the doors for Nawabzada Hairbayar Marri and Nawabzada Bramdagh Bugti to return to Balochistan. Citing the return of two former prime ministers of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif and late Benazir Bhutto, who were barred by former dictator General Pervez Musharraf to return to Pakistan, the Senate deputy chairman said the doors of return should also be opened for the Baloch leaders.
The former Balochistan chief minister also reminded Islamabad that Balochistan was a different area with a different history which, according to him, had never been ruled by the Hindus and Sikhs. Therefore, it is hard to subjugate the Balochs.
