Supreme Court verdict on NRO widely extolled across Balochistan
QUETTA, Dec 17: Political leaders and lawyers in Balochistan have welcomed the Supreme Court decision on striking down the National Reconciliation
Ordinance (NRO) and termed it a triumph of justice.
Talking to Baloch Hal President National Party (NP) Senator Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch said that it was a landmark decision which would help to curb the menace of corruption and misuse of public exchequer.
“We from the very first day were saying that NRO is a black law which was formulated by a dictator to expand his unconstitutional rule”, he said, adding NP would not support any move against democratic process under cancellation of pretext of NRO.
NP leader was hopeful that after taking revolutionary decision against
NRO, Supreme Court would also take notice against incidents of forced disappearances of Baloch youth in Balochistan and play its due role in ending alleged military operation in Balochistan and recover all missing persons.
Lauding the Supreme Court decision, Provincial President Pashtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party Usman Kakar said that his party had always rejected NRO because it was not only contradictory to the constitution but also strengthening dictatorship in the country.
He said: “we have welcomed the verdict of Supreme Court but will not support any action aiming at to destabilize democratic process in the country” he said, and adding “We hope Supreme Court will ensure supremacy of constitution and law and will take effective decision in the future too”.
Acting President Balochistan National Party Dr. Jehanzaib Jamaldini said that no any Baloch or Balochistani had taken benefit from NRO while its beneficiaries were those people who grew under the shadow of dictatorship.
“Certainly it is an unprecedented verdict and we hope Supreme Court will also play its constitutional role by recovering missing persons of Balochistan and end injustices with it” he added.
Former President Balochistan Bar Association Baz Muhammad Kakar said that
NRO was never accepted by the citizens of the country and added that it was an unconstitutional accord between a dictator and some opportunist political forces.
He said that lawyers’ movement was for the independence of judiciary and supremacy of law and now it was yielding its results. “After this decision
the exploiters will be made accountable”, he added.
PML (Nawaz) leader Ayaz Sawati Advocate, PTI Balochistan Organizer Shahid
Qazi, PML (Q) leader Naseebullah Achakzai stressed the need for independent and fair prosecution of cases. They said that all NRO beneficiaries who were holding different positions in government should immediately resign.
