Completion of agricultural projects to make remarkable difference: Gondal

QUETTA: Work on 17 schemes is underway with Federal Government assistance in Agriculture sector. Their completion would bring a remarkable difference in the agriculture development in the province making people prosperous.

This was stated by Provincial Secretary Agriculture Ghulam Ali Baloch at a briefing at a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal here Sunday.

Meeting reviewed different matters for promotion of agriculture in the province.

Federal Minister lauded performance of heads of schemes particularly he showed keen interest in dates, olive and cotton crops. He called upon the officers to utilize all their abilities for further improving their performance.

Secretary Agriculture told that different areas of the province are very suitable for olive cultivation and much more steps are needed in this regard. It would not provided edible oil in abundance but  would have positive impacts on country’s economy.

Federal Minister expressed anger for not providing olive plants to Balochistan in time and said that this should be resolved through mutual coordination.

Director General High Efficiency of Irrigation system told that except two districts of Balochistan agriculture is dependent on underground or flood water and we can bring maximum area under plough thorough this new system.

ARID ZONE RESEARCH CENTRE:  Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal also visited Arid Zone Research Centre here Sunday. He was briefed on agriculture research about promotion of agriculture in dry and rain fed areas of Balochistan

Director General Dr Sarfraz Ahmad told the minister that Centre has developed a new variety of wheat (azri 96) which not only give good produce in dry/ Flood areas than other local varieties but it faced cold and dry weather.

Minister told that adhoc and daily wager employees of this centre working for the last 10 years would be regularized and those waiting for their promotions would be promoted.
