Demo held against killing of coal miners

QUETTA: All Pakistan Labour Federation and Pakistan Central Mines Labour Federation jointly took out a rally to protest the killing of 18 coal miners and injuring of many others.

The rally taken out from Municipal Corporation ground marched on various streets and culminated outside the Quetta Press Club where a protest demonstration was held.

Labour leaders Sultan Muhammad Khan, Bakht Nawab Yousufzai, Abdus Sattar, Syed Altaf Hussain Shah, Muhammad Jamil, Rehmatullah Baloch, Shah Ali Bugti and others addressed the demonstration.

They alleged that Mines Department and the private contractors were responsible for negligence and not taking protective measures at coalmines. In the recent tragic incidents a number of coalmines had collapsed killing 18 coal miners besides injuring many others.

The trade union leaders alleged that hundreds of poor coal miners had been killed in such mishaps during the last few years. But no action was taken against any official or the contractor except a formal inquiry.

They urged the authorities for appropriate action against those responsible for negligence and not taking protective measures. They also said that most of coal miners had suffered from different diseases, particularly asthma and TB.
