Oil tankers’ owners demand protection, compensation

QUETTA: The All Pakistan Oil Tankers Association has strongly criticized the government for not safeguarding the highways and proving compensation to the drivers being killed, kidnapped in repeated violent cases taking place in different parts of the country.
The members of the association staged a protest rally in front of the Quetta Press Club on Monday and subsequently addressed a pres conference.
Speaking to reporters, Mir Yousaf Shahwani, chairman of the All Pakistan Oil Tankers Association, complained about the growing insecurity on the highways of Balochistan as every other day cases of murder of drivers or their kidnapping were being reported. The government, he said, was not doing anything to protect the highways from such criminal activities. He demanded protection for the drivers and compensation for the victims of highway attacks.
He also accused the Sindh Police and department of Excise for allegedly blackmailing the transporters for asking them for money while entering inside Sindh.
