Suspected “RAW-agent” detained in Balochistan

QUETTA: Officials in Balochistan’s Qila Saifullah district claimed on Friday to have detained an agent of Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) of Afghan origin along with important documents.

According to the details, the law enforcement agencies arrested a suspected agent of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Qila Saifullah district after conducting a successful raid on a refugee camp following credible intelligence reports. The suspected Indian agent was hiding in Muslim Bagh tehsil of Qila Saifulla district where the raid was conducted. The arrested man was identified as Abdul Salam, an Afghan national.

The arrest of the alleged Indian agent comes two days after the statement of federal interior minister Rehman Malik who said in Gwadar that RAW was involved in creating trouble in Balochistan. Punjab’s chief minister Mian Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif had also said in Gwadar that India was creating unrest in Balochistan via Afghanistan.

The prime minister of Pakistan Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani had raised the issue of Indian involvement in Balochistan with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh in Egypt last year. On their part, the Baloch nationalists have been rejecting the official clam that India is supporting the Baloch movement.

Officials said they had also recovered important documents, maps other items from the custody of the Afghan national.

“We believe he works for RAW. He entered Pakistan via Afghanistan and hid himself in a refugee camp,” said an official requesting anonymity. He said Abdul Salam had been shifted to an unknown but safe location for further investigations. Officials said they expected to extract key information from the alleged RAW agent.
