Vaccine dispatched to measles-hit Sherani: EPI Chief
QUETTA: Provincial chief of Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) Dr. Ayub on Wednesday affirmed the break out of measles in district Zhob and Sherani and said that more than 2000 dozes of vaccine and other resources have been dispatched for the management of infected children.
Talking to reporters, he said that the district health department sent survey teams, held camps and immunized scores of children in the area. Moreover, a detailed plan has also been submitted with the Unicef and Federal EPI who would provide logistics and human support to the government to properly manage the calamity.
He however, maintained that the provincial government had provided required vaccine and other facilities adding that additional resources would also be ensured in case of demand on part of the district government.
To another question, Dr. Ayub said that no details about the deaths caused by measles in Balochistan were available as the disease had shrunk to a large extent as a result of Anti Measles Campaign in 2008.
He advised the people to immunize their children before the infection, isolate them if they are already infected by measles and provide them the medicine strictly in accordance with the advice of the doctor.
