Widespread rain, snowfall prediction

QUETTA: A strong westerly weather is likely to approach Pakistan during the next 36 hours, which would cause widespread rains and heavy snowfall during form February 5 to 8.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department rain/snow will commence over Balochistan/NWFP from February 5, which will subsequently increase in intensity and distribution. From Feb 6 gradually it would extend to Punjab, Northern Areas and Kashmir especially on Feb 7 and 8 these areas would receive widespread rains and heavy snowfall over mountainous regions. At times, heavy snowfall in Galliyat, Kashmir and Northern Areas may cause disruption in daily life and at few places may cause landslides as well.

Met office sources said that these rains would prove useful for Rabi Crops, water resources and help alleviate dry conditions in the country.

In Quetta Valley on Friday, weather remained cloudy. In the afternoon strong winds gusting 36 knots lashed the Valley from 2 to 5 pm. Dusty weather reduced visibility to just 2 km, which was later improved.

Minimum temperature recorded here Friday was 5.5 Celsius and maximum 18 Celsius.

Partly cloudy to cloudy weather with chances of rain/thunderstorm with snowfall is expected in most parts of Balochistan during the coming 24 hours.
