QUETTA: Expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of police, Balochistan High Court on Wednesday ordered Provincial Police Officer(PPO) to change the existing “Thana Culture” and make it friendly for the people.
A division bench of the high court consisting of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Essa and Justice Syeda Tahira Safdar was hearing a suo motu notice taken by the CJ-BHC into the incidents of targeted killing in various parts of Balochistan.
Provincial Home Secretary Akbar Durrani, Provincial Police Officer Syed Javed Bukhari and other senior police officials appeared before the court and submitted their statements.
In his remarks during the hearing Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court said that the police department should encourage efficient and honest officers which would positively enhance their performance.
He observed that common man was afraid to go to the police due to the fear that his problems would further be complicated.
The CJ said that terrorists target people and slip away without being detected by the police adding that the force needs to enhance intelligence.
Citing an incident, the CJ ordered the prisons authorities to maintain the record along with a photograph of the jail prisoners.
The court was informed that under the Access to Justice Programme all the jails were being interconnected through computer network and their record was being computerized.
The court directed for issuance of notices to Secretary Interior ordering him to submit a report on computerizing the jail records.
