Declaring 2010 as ‘Maai Jori Year’ demanded

QUETTA: A non-governmental organization “Shirkatgah Women Resource center” on Friday organized a day-long seminar in connection with the World Women’s Day during which a resolution was adopted demanding declaring 2010 as the year of “Maai Jori” who recently contested bye-elections for PB-25 Jaffarabad as the firs women ever in the history of Jaffarabad.

Former Senator and Chairperson SOS village Roshan Khurshid Barocha was the chief guest while among others were various NGOs activists working for women development and other projects, members of civil society and media personnel.

Lauding the courage of Maai Jori and for making an example for rest, a resolution was adopted unanimously demanding that 2010 should be declared as the Maai Jori who being the first uneducated farmer women contested for the provincial constituency.

Addressing the participants former Senator Roshan Khurshid Baroocha said privileged women responsible for the exploitation of poor women.

She said that if a women serving as Parliamentarian and working in an NGO or other field does not help suffering of fellow women than who else would come and heal a grieved woman.

“Media has played pivotal role for reducing the problems faced by women and has pointed out the areas where government has yet to work out on”, she maintained.

Paying rich tribute to the martyrs Benazir Bhutto, former Senator said that she strove for the emancipation of women and her martyrdom was for the noble cause.

Earlier, Director Social Welfare Department Abdullah said ” men and women are part and parcel for each other and women today sitting either in Parliament or may be at other forums is just because of male”.

Referring the former Federal Minster Zubaida Jalal, he said that her male family members endorsed her work and she opened school despite resistance of the area people.-
