FAO, WFP launch Food facility plan
QUETTA: The European Union Food Facility Project under Food Agriculture Organisation (FAO) umbrella will be started soon in four districts of Balochistan where the small-scale farmers having 2 to 4 hectares of agriculture land will be the beneficiaries.
On Thursday, the representatives of FAO addressed the media persons saying that the key interventions of the project to be implemented under FAO umbrella, include quality agriculture inputs, distribution, rehabilitation of irrigation channels, establishment of water harvesting structures, agriculture implements provision, reduction of pest, harvest losses through modern techniques of seed storages and capacity building of farmers through farmer field school approach.
He said, Pakistan is an initiative, worth 40 million Euros operating with an aim to increase sustainable food security for the most vulnerable households in the food deficient areas of NWFP, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan. The project a joint intervention of FAO and World Food Programme (WFP) is supporting approximately 166 710 rural households (1 167000 people) targeting seventeen food insecure districts throughout the country.
In the Balochistan the beneficiaries include Pishin, Qila Saifullah, Jaffarabad and Sibi, four union council from each districts. The representatives termed it a relief package for poor farmer.
