Fauzia demands probe into Kohlu Package funds
QUETTA: Dr Fauzia Nazir Marri, MPA, has demanded special investigation into massive spending of public money on the so called Kohlu Package announced by the President of Pakistan.
Speaking on a point of order, she took the floor of the Balochistan Assembly and claimed that the Government had allocated billions of rupees for the special development package for Kohlu District claiming that the money spent in a radius of mere 15 kilometers around Kohlu Township denying the rest of District of benefits of development.
She said Kohlu District comprises of three Tehsils, Kohlu, Mawand and Kahan. She claimed that all the money is being spent to a particular area of Kohlu Tehsil.
She told the house that she had received representation from sub-tribes and cross section of the Marri people complaining that they are being denied development fund and spending on projects in their areas.
Dr Fauzia Marri said that she too was nominated as one of the members of the Committee overseeing the Kohlu Development Package on January 28 last. She told the House that she received an invitation of the Committee to attend the meeting on March 25, 2010.
Suddenly, she received an official intimation informing her that she was dropped as a member of the Committee and without assigning any reason.
She registered her strong protest blaming the Kohlu Mafia for removing her name from the Committee following fears that the massive embezzlement of the public fund spent to a distance of mere 15kilometers would be exposed and people would be informed about the alleged irregularities accordingly.
Dr Fauzia Marri, who is a qualified medical doctor and practicing medicine, demanded from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan to induct an inquiry into the massive embezzlement of public fund of Kohlu Package through the Prime Minister’s Inspection Team.
She explained her stand on the floor of the House saying that if the Provincial Government is restrained from interfering in the Presidential Package for Development of Kohlu, she was within her right to demand an investigation from the PM Investigation Team so that justice is done.
Later talking to newsmen after the Assembly session, she said that development spending should be transparent and fair ensuring equal distribution of benefits to the people of Kohlu.
