Increase in Zakat fund for patients demanded

QUETTA: The Standing Committee of the Senate of Pakistan on Zakat and Usher recommended an increase in Zakaat funds for the patients of Balochistan haling from downtrodden class.

This was stated during the meeting of the Zakaat and Ushr committee met with the Chairman Senator Saleh Shah here Tuesday in Quetta .

Other committee members- Senator Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, Senator Prof Sajid Mir and Senator Zaid Khan, Balochistan Minister for Zakaat Salim Khoso, Federal Secretary Zakaat Khalil Idrees, Provincial Secretary Asmatullah Kakar and chairmen district Zakaat committees also attended the meeting.

The Committee on the occasion, issued directives to the authorities concern to add the sum of Rs 2.3 million deposited in term of Usher tax in the Banks to the Zakar funds.

They added that a recommendation of at least Rs 3 billion increase from Zakaat funds to the Balochistan would yield positive results.

Expressing their concern over the inadequate funds, meeting directed the Board of Revenue to transfer the sum received in connection with the Usher taxes to the Zakat funds so that the needy patients could be benefited from it.

Member of the committee noted that 4.5 million in term of Zakaat fund in Balochistan was not sufficient enough to help out the downtrodden

Earlier, officials of Zakat department gave detailed briefing to the meeting.
