Lawyers stage sit-in before BA

QUETTA: The Chief Minister, Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani is taking keen interest

on the issue of kidnapped lawyer giving directives to the Provincial Police Officer, Balochistan, for early and safe recovery of Iftikhar-ul-Haq.

H was whisked away a week back on broad daylight in this provincial capital.

Provincial Finance Minister Mir Asim Kurd, assured the protesting lawyers on Thursday, while a large number of lawyers hailing from Balochistan Bar Association and High Court Bar, staged a sit-in before the Provincial Assembly, demanding immediate recovery of kidnapped BHC lawyer.

Pacifying the protesters, Asim Kurd said that Provincial Cabinet had a meeting over law and orders situation a day before, during the meeting CM strictly ordered to authority concerned utilizing available resources for safe recovery of kidnapped lawyer.

Lawyers took out a procession from District Courts and after marching different parts of city held a sit-in in front of the Assembly. They chanted slogans against the government for failure of maintenance of law and order situation

Addressing the protestors Vice President Supreme Court Bar, Mr. Amanullah Kanrani, said the judicial activities have been suspended throughout Balochistan for past seven days and the government functionaries have failed to recover the kidnapped lawyer.

“If the lawyer of High Court is insecure, what will happen with common people? The IG, SP, and SHO should be suspended as they are not performing their duties of protecting life and property of the people,” he added.

He said that the President of Supreme Court Bar is scheduled to arrive today at Quetta where he presides over meeting of lawyers over the issue of kidnapping in which the future course of action will be decided.

Protestors criticized the law enforcement agencies for failure to trace out and finally bust  the chain of kidnappers in past many years. They blamed security agencies for allegedly being involved in kidnapping of prominent lawyer as government does not seem bother to put a hand in this matter. Later, protestors dispersed peacefully.
