Pak authorities detain “Indian agent” in Chaman
CHAMAN: Authorities in Pakistan claimed here on Friday to have detained an “Indian agent” on Pak-Afghan border who had crossed the country’s frontiers via Afghanistan to carry out what the officials termed as “terrorist activities” inside Balochistan.
Colonel Asad Shahzad Khattak, a senior officer of the Frontier Corps (FC), told journalists in Pak-Afghan border town of Chaman that an FC team had been ambushed when the former wanted to intercept an alto car that crossed into Pakistani territory at Rogani area. When the forces retaliated, the people driving an alto car with a fake number plate crossed the border inside Afghanistan. However, the FC managed to capture one of the attackers who was identified as Murad Khan Marri, who confessed to be working with India as an agent.
“We have recovered Indian and Afghan currency from his custody,” said Khattak, “as well as a phone book comprising of Indian telephone numbers and explosives.” The FC official said Marri had entered into Pakistan to carry out some terrorist attacks.
Pakistan has been blaming India for creating unrest and fanning an insurgency in its gas-rich province of Balochistan, a charge India has denied time and again. It was the second time the Pakistani authorities claimed to have rounded up an alleged Indian agent.
Balochistan has been the center of a bloody insurgency where the majority Baloch population has picked up guns against the State of Pakistan, demanding maximum autonomy and full control over the natural resources of the province.
