PPP’s Nasir Jamali wins PB-25 by-polls
JAFFARABAD: A candidate of the ruling Pakistan People’Nasir Khan Jamali, the PPP candidate, defeated his rivals by a heavy margin to clinch the Balochistan Assembly seat in the PB-25 Jaffarabad by-elections on Wednesday.
Polls were held amid tight security arrangements to fill a seat that had been vacant since the killing of former Balochistan minister Sardar Rustam Jamali. According to unofficial results, Jamali lead the field with 27,316 votes. Deputy Senate Chairman Jan Mohammed Jamali also cast his vote in Jaffarabad.
Frontier Constabulary personnel were deputed across the constituency to maintain order and all educational institutions in the area remained closed. At least 140,800 voters were registered here and 91 polling stations set up, 34 of which were declared ‘most sensitive’
Clashes between the supporters of different electoral candidates left around 30 people injured while Attaullah Buledai, who got 8915 votes against 27316 votes of Jamali, charged the authorities of rigging the polls.
