Twenty-four candidates are contesting the poll, including a farmer lady, Mahi Jodi, a move that has stunned everyone. She has made a significant mark in the competitive electoral race domineered by extremely powerful tribal chiefs and influential land lords. She is the first ever contestant from a poor family background to challenge the status quo and come forward to raise the voice of landless farmers in the area. Currently, she enjoys adequate support of women and farmer community during her election campaign.
The total figure of registered voters is 0.140 million and 91 polling stations have been formed including 37 for female and 30 for male voters.
By-polls are being held on a seat left vacant by former minister Rustam Jamali, who was shot dead by unidentified dacoits in Karachi. Jamali of the Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-e-Azam) had won the general elections from this constituency by getting more than 15000 votes against his opponent Mir Attahullah Bulaedi of the Pakistan People’s Party who lost by five thousands votes.
