18 th amendment triumph of incumbent govt: Surriya
QUETTA: Pakistan People Party Senator Surriya Ameerudin has said that the credit for the restoration of the true spirit of the 1973 constitution and passage of 18th amendment bill went to President Asif Ali Zardari, who voluntarily transferred his powers to the parliament.
Talking to the media on Saturday the senator said she believed that this was the first time in the history of the country that someone had quit and voluntarily handed over his powers to the parliament.
She added this development was one that brought spring in the politics of the country, especially restoration of parliamentary form of government, transfer of powers to the Prime Minster, renaming NWFP to Pakhtunkhwa, abolishing the concrete list and Agahz-e-Haqooq Balochistan are the landmark measures of incumbent PPP-led government.
She further added said that the 18th constitutional amendment bill is just the beginning towards the fulfillment of the promises made by the late Shaheed-e- Jamhooriat with the people and establishment of a stable democracy in the country.
The entire leadership deserves admiration for rising above the party interest in the best interest of the country, she maintained, adding it is indeed a constructive step to live up the expectations of the Pakistan.
She said that PPP government would complete its term and after the achievement of this milestone now the problems facing an ordinary man be focused with new vigor.
Hailing the issuance of cards to the women of downtrodden class through Benazir income Support programme Senator said that the days are gone when funds allocated for poor segment of society were embezzled, now each deserving would get its due right.
