Raisani bills 18th amendment a landmark achievement

ISLAMABAD, April 17: The Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani has termed the adoption of the 18th Constitutional Amendments as one of the epoch-making decisions putting the country on the road to democracy.

Nawab Raisani expressed these views during a meeting with Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, Advisor to the PM at Parliament House here this evening. The provincial ministers Mir Sadiq Umrani, Mir Asim Kurd Gailu and Engineer Zamrak Khan were also present on the occasion.

Both the leaders discussed in details the different aspects of the Constitutional Package framed by the Mian Raza Rabbani and his team. Nawab Aslam Raisani extended his felicitations to Raza Rabbani on unanimous adoption of the 18th Constitutional Amen dements from both the houses of the Parliament. The Chief Minister Balochistan said it was indeed a big achievement on the part of the present government adding that it was leader of the PPP, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who had gifted the nation with 1973 Constitution, later mutilated and tarnished by successive dictators to suit their unlawful rule over the country.

Nawab Aslam Raisani also congratulated President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani on extending all out support to the team members in formulating the draft of the said amendment, especially President Zardari who shunned his powers to help strengthen the democratic system in the country and fulfilling the promise he had committed to the nation. “With the changes in the Constitution and giving it the original status the present government has flushed out the remnants of the Musharraf regime,” Nawab Raisani maintained.

On the occasion, Nawab Aslam Raisani called upon Senator Rabbani to ensure implementation of the Constitutional Package in letter and spirit by engaging seasoned politicians and experts in order to remove the ensuing hurdles in the way of implementation of the said package. The Chief Minister recalled the long outstanding issues relating to Gwadar Port; provision of jobs to Balochistan’s youth under the Aghaz-e-Haqooq Package; the role of FC in the Province and the most burning issue of the missing persons and called upon the Senator to play his role in this regard.

Expressing his views Senator Mian Raza Rbbani said that he was thankful to all the political parties for their support in finalization of the draft and giving unanimous consent towards adoption of the bill tabled in the Parliament. He also congratulated the Chief Minister on revival of the offices of the Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner beside restoration of the time-tested Levies Force in Balochistan.

Mir Sadiq Umrani, Mir Asim Kurd and Engineer Zamrak Khan the parliamentary leaders of PPP; PML (Q) and ANP in the Balochistan Assembly, respectively also expressed their views and greeted  Mian Raza Rbbani.
