Attack on security van of oil-gas company injures three
QUETTA: Three people, including two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel, were injured when their vehicle was attacked by an explosive device in Kalat district on Saturday, some 150 kilometers southeast of provincial capital.
According to sources, the security personnel were providing protection to a private company, which is exploring oil and gas in the area. The vehicle was passing through Zawa area of Kalat district when a device planted along with roadside detonated with a remote-control.
As a result of the blast, three officials of FC, identified as Sobedar major Niaz Mohammad, Constable Jumma Khan and driver Zubair Ahmed, received splinter wounds. The vehicle was partially damaged in the blast.
Police and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the site soon after the blast and cordoned off the area. The injured were rushed to Quetta for treatment after being provided first medical aid in Kalat.
FC spokesman, Murtaza Baig, said FC personnel were deployed to protect the officials of oil and gas exploration company in the area. “ The vehicle was parked at the area when the blast occurred,” he said, adding that the injured personnel were not in a critical condition.
Local police have registered a case against unknown persons and started investigation into the matter.
