Baloch Journalist acquitted of terrorism charges
SIBI: An anti-terrorism court in Sibi Distirct acquitted a Baloch journalist charged of terrorism allegations here the other day.
According to the details, Rehmatullah Shaheen, a senior journalist from Mach area of Bolan Distirct had been detained by the security forces on December 8, 2010 on terrorism charges. While the security forces shifted him to Quetta for further interrogation, journalists’ bodies across Balochistan angrily reacted to the arrest of the journalist by terming it a lack of tolerance by the government towards dissenting views.
As the anti-terrorism court did not get any proof of Shaheen’s involvement in any kind of terrorist activity or group, he was acquitted of all charges. Shaheen was delightedly welcomed by his friends, relatives and professional colleagues over his honorable acquittal from all charges. He had been kept in the official custody for at least five months without having committed any crimes.
