Balochistan transporters go on strike against highway robberies

QUETTA: Transporters in Balochistan have made a call for a strike against the increasing incidents of robbery on the RCD highway in which they announced that all the booking offices for Quetta to Karachi route will remain closed from today (Wednesday) to an indefinite period.

The strike call was made by President of the All Balochistan Transporters Action Committee, Quetta, Haji Qadir Raisani during a news conference at Quetta Press Club here on Tuesday.

He said that the highway robberies have become a routine matter on RCD highway for the past four months, day before yesterday unknown persons opened fire on passenger coach and after that set it on fire near Mongechar. “Government seemed to be powerless before the robbers as every passing day they take passengers hostage with complete impunity,” he said add adding that if the robbers were not brought to justice we would intensify our strike and take severe steps.

He demanded that government should pay compensation for burnt passenger bus and also take stern action the concerned authority where incidents took place. “A delegation of transporters met with Chief Minister, Home Ministry and other concerned authority but after assuring the incidents were not stopped, though it has been increasing,” Haji Qadir said. He gave a deadline of two days and said if our demands were not met within two days we would launch wheel jam strike on RCD Highway for unspecified period.
