Bhoothani to drag Gilani into court
QUETTA: Speaker Balochistan Assembly Mohammad Aslam Bhoothani has decided to file a case of defamation against Pir Abdul Qadir Gilani, a member of the Balochistan Assembly who had accused the Speaker of arms smuggling in his native Lasbela District.
The Balochistan Assembly Speaker confessed here on Wednesday that he did have political differences with Gilani but it did not mean that the latter should use the forum of Balochistan Assembly, an elected and democratically sacred body, to level “baseless allegations” against his political rivals.
Bhoothani, who is the first ever Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly to be elected unopposed, said he would file a case of defamation against Pir Gilani for which he had started contacts with his legal aides. The member of the Balochistan Assembly would be required to substantiate his serious allegations.
“Pir Gilani will have to face me in the court,” warned Bhoothani who insisted that the ‘allegations’ against him were intended to tarnish his political image.
“Ours is a politically respected family which has been voted by the people eight times to the Balochistan Assembly in the last 35 years which indicates the public support our family enjoys,” he remarked.
