Booking offices of Quetta-Karachi coaches remain shut in protest

QUETTA: Transporters operating passenger buses between Karachi and Quetta had closed their booking offices on Wednesday in protest against the increasing number of highway robberies, hold ups, looting passengers and buses on the route.

The offices located Saryab Road were closed and not a single passenger bus or coach left for Karachi on Wednesday causing difficulties to the people, particularly those poor people taking their patients to major Karachi hospitals for specialized treatment.

President of All Balochistan Transporters Action Committee, Haji Qadir Raisani had threatened to go on strike unless the Government arrest the increasing crime rate and punish all those responsible for looting and burning the buses, coaches and trucks.

In a statement issued here, He gave a deadline of two days for the arrest of culprits and said after that the transporters will organize a wheel jam strike on RCD highway suspending it for traffic.

He demanded that the Provincial Government should pay adequate compensation for the bus burnt by the miscreants allowed to flee without a fear that he will be caught and punished under the law.

The spokesman claimed that the strike is for an indefinite period and the bus operators will resort to close the highway for all kind of traffic if their demands are ignored.
