Lawyers to observe “black day” on May 12

QUETTA: The Balochistan Bar Association (BBA) has announced a boycott of all upper and lower courts of Balochistan to mark the deadly May 12 episode of Karachi and reiterated its demand for an independent judicial inquiry into the incident  to bring to book the culprits responsible for the mass killings.

The President of BBA Baz Mohammad Kakar made this announcement during a news conference at Quetta Press Club here on Tuesday. He said lawyer would observe black day on Wednesday (today).

“Lawyers will boycott from the upper and lower courts and will not appear in the court proceedings. A condolence references will be conducted in all district bars of Balochistan to pay rich tribute  to those who embraced martyrdom in Karachi on May 12, 2007,” he said, adding that a black flag would be displayed outside the bar rooms.

He said, those people who were playing role against the independent judiciary are sitting in the Parliament now. The government, which claims to be the pioneer of democracy, should play its due role regarding the investigation of the  incident of May 12, as the involved culprits are still at large.

He said it was an important day and the people would never forget the blood shed of the champions of supremacy of the constitution and independent judiciary. People belonging to different walks of life , including the lawyers’ community and political parties, gave sacrifices of their lives for the lawyer movement which eventually succeeded.

The lawyers are still standing with the grieve families who lost their beloved and have had a courage to support the truth, he added. “Government is failed to identify the criminals during the past three years which rising question on the performance of government,” said Baz Kakar adding that if there will be compromise then no one has to face charges or any sentence for the criminal and cruel act.
