QUETTA: Different religious political parities rallied on Thursday against the social network website, Facebook, for allegedly holding a competition of drawing the caricatures of Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon him) on May 2010.
As the popular social network remained completely blocked for the second day in a country which has rapidly attracted a lot of internet users in the recent times, the leaders of different religious groups staged a protest rally against Facebook in front of the Quetta Press Club.
Two different rallies were taken out in Quetta city the other day to condemn the drawing competition by terming it an effort to widen the gap between the members of different religions. They said the west was in itself flaring up religious disharmony by hurting the Muslim sentiments under the pretext of freedom of expression.
The first demonstration was taken out by the leaders and activists of Jammat-e-Islami while the second and widely attended rally was staged by Majlis-e-Khatham-e-Nabuat and both the factions of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam.
Speakers of the rally were carrying placards and banners holding the United States of America and several European countries responsible for the ‘conspiracy against Islam.” They also criticized the Muslim governments of the world for not taking up the issue very seriously.
