Repair of 220 KV transmission lines underway

QUETTA: Repair of 220 kv Guddu-Uch-Sibi transmission lines is underway under the supervision of NTDC officers in Chattar Phulleji area. Technical staff is engaged in work day and night to repair the lines.

A Spokesman of NTDC (WAPDA) said here on Tuesday that unknown persons stole joint plates, nut bolts in large number from 9 towers of the said transmission lines weakening tower structure. This was revealed when NTDC team patrolled the area on April 13.  On the next day, work could not be undertaken in view of firing by unknown persons even under the supervision of police.

Later Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and FC authorities were requested to provide security so that work could be started. In the meanwhile, unknown persons targeted  9 other towers on the evening of April 20. It caused 40 percent reduction in the supply of electricity and load shedding which further delayed the repair work.

The spokesman said that work had started on April 27 under the supervision of private security following non-provision of security till April 26.

Work had stopped on May 4 for expressing displeasure over non provision of private security. Now the work has again restarted after the provision of 120 personnel of Balochistan Constabulary.

“Efforts are underway to resume the supply at the earliest,” said the spokesman.
