KARACHI: The family of Zakir Majeed, the vice-chairman of Baloch Students Organization (BSO) who had been allegedly whisked away by state intelligence agencies, continued its token hunger strike camp outside Karachi press club for the 30th consecutive day.
The Baloch student’s mother is personally sitting in the hunger strike camp to demand the release of her missing son. She told the media the other day that her son had been “missing” for more than one year while national and international media and human rights watchdogs were doing nothing to assist the family to get him resurfaced. She said her son was a democrat and political activist. Therefore, it was unfair to refuse him any legal trial and the right to defend himself in a court of law.
“We want him to be resurfaced and given the internationally recognized right to hire a legal consultant to face whatever charges have been leveled against him. Right now, we even do not know the nature of charges leveled against my son,” she said.
The mother of the missing Baloch leader appealed to the international human rights organizations to take notice of the growing cases of enforced disappearances in Balochistan.
People from different walks of life visited the hunger strike camp established by the family of the missing Baloch student activist outside Karachi Press Club to express solidarity with the family over the ordeal it is currently undergoing in the wake of ‘disappearance’ of a scion of the Baloch family.
