Baloch university student missing for eight months
QUETTA: Chakar Marri, a student of University of Balochistan (UoB), could not be released yet despite lapse of eight months while government seems to be totally indifferent to the appeals of the family.
This was stated by Mir Changaiz Khan Marri, the elder brother of Chakar Marri during a press conference here on Friday. He said that the rulers who were making tall claims about democracy, liberty and independent judiciary were least concerned with the fate of thousands of Baloch missing persons including Chakar Marri.
He said that the only crime of his brother was that he along with some other students demanded of the then VC of the varsity Masoom Yaseenzai to resume the educational activities in UoB.
He said University was closed for three months without any solid reason being assigned. He alleged that his brother was picked up by personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) who did not return home to date after lapse of 8 months. “Constitution of Pakistan guaranteed every individual right of peaceful protest”, he said, adding that the protest of his brother was not a crime at all.
However, he said, if the protest of Chakar Marri was considered as a crime on grounds that he was a Baloch, he should have been produced before the court of law within 24 hours. “We tried several time to get register the FIR of my missing brother but the concerned police station is hesitating to do so”, Changaiz Marri claimed.
Responding to a question, he said that Chief Justice Iftakhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken notice of missing persons in Musharraf regime and later he was deposed and added that now he was restored but not paying attention to this main issue.
He demanded of the United Nations, International Court of Justice and other international humanitarian organisations to take notice of the missing persons of Balochistan and play their role in securing their release.
