Balochistan Assembly Passes Supplementary Budget

QUETTA: Balochistan Assembly (BA)has approved supplementary budget of province to the tune of Rs 13.19 billion for current financial year within record short time of 20 minutes.

Session of Assembly met after two days break with Deputy Speaker Syed Matiullah Agha was in the chair.

Provincial Minister for Finance Mir Asim Kurd presented 28 demands which were approved within 20 minutes.

Non development expenditures in supplementary budget have been estimated Rs 2.46 billion while development expenditures had been estimated Rs 10.72 billion.

House started general debate on next year financial budget.

Taking part in debate, MPA of PML-Q, Sheikh Jaffar Mandokhel, who is a former Finance Minister of Balochistan, has suggested that PSDP should be revised under the supervision of Chief Minister. He claimed that most of the schemes were prepared in a haphazard way having no economic impact on any constituency or the overall society. He emphasized that government should evolve a strategy in order to ensure the development work in the province.

He further said that there is need to make vibrant the Department of Planning and Development. Shahnwaz Marri, a sitting Minister, also suggested that P&D should be revamped and re organized

Remarks of Imran Khan against Balochistan Government and provincial legislators echoed in Balochistan Assembly.

Members of Balochistan Assembly severely criticized the President of Tahrek-i-Insaaf Imran Khan over his remarks regarding Balochistan Assembly and demanded to summon him in Balochistan Assembly seeking explanation.

Provincial Minister Agriculture, Asad Baloch raised the issue on Point of Order as saying that Imran’s knowledge is restricted in cricket and does not know about even how many districts are in Balochistan thus he has no right to insult the legislators.

Other law makers, Jaffar Mandokhel, Pir Abdul Qadir Gillani, Ms Rubina Irfan and Asim Kurd also strongly condemned the remarks made by Imran Khan. They said that he should control his tongue because he insulted the people of Balochistan through his provocative remarks. “Imran will be welcomed in Quetta with eggs and tomatoes,” said Asim Kurd adding that he should give explanation on his remarks.

Talking on Point of Order, MPA Rubina Irfan said there are 144 NGOs are working in Balochistan against the tribal culture and tradition of Balochistan. “The NGOs are projecting the tribal system negatively throughout world,” she said. She said that some NGOs showing that rights of women are being violated by tribal elders and making such moves in order to prove it real. She claimed that such NGOs have political ground and ambitions and demanded that government should cancel the licenses of NGOs and set up an enquiry regarding this matter.

Provincial Minister Asghar Rind supported the remarks of Rubina Irfan and said such NGOs are working under the Federal Government. He suggested that all the NGOs first should consult with provincial government then formulates their plans for the province.
