Balochistan dismayed over release of less water from Indus
QUETTA: An adjournment motion was moved in the Balochistan Assembly on Wednesday regarding the issue of less water for Balochistan from the Indus River.
Member of Provincial Assembly Sardarzada Nasir Khan Jamali moved the adjournment motion. Addressing on admissibility of motion, he said that Sindh government was not releasing full share of water to Balochistan under 1991 agreement.
“Balochistan is receiving only 900 cusecs water per day for kharif season instead of 1400 cusecs. This is destroying crops in Naseerabad area of Balochistan”, he added.
He said that they had also apprised Sindh Irrigation authorities about the matter but no progress was made so far releasing of full share of water. He stressed that Chief Minister and Irrigation Minister should take this issue seriously so that the growers of Nasirabad and Jaffarabad could be saved from losses.
Other provincial ministers, including Gazala Gola, Habib-ur-Rehman Muhammad Hassani, Jan Ali Changai, Abdul Samad Akhundzada , Ali Madad Jattak and Asfandar Kakar fully supported the adjournment motion, saying this was a serious issue which should be resolved amicably between Sindh and Balochistan otherwise it would create differences between both provinces.
They said that IRSA Agreement 1991 should not be violated and all provinces should be given their shares according to this agreement.
Provincial Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination, Dr. Roqia Hashimi said that government was fully aware about this issue and making all out efforts to get due share of Balochistan. “Four members committee headed by Chief Ministers of Balochistan and Sindh has been formed to resolve the issue”, she added.
After positive assurance, Speaker disposed off the motion and adjourned the session of assembly for an indefinite period. Ends
