BDC calls for immediate relief in Mekran
QUETTA: Members of civil society organizations associated with Balochistan Development Consortium (BDC) held a protest demonstration here in front the Quetta Press Club the other day while calling for immediate relief and rehabilitation work in the flood hit coastal areas of the province.
The participants were holding placards and chanted slogans calling for immediate relief and rehabilitation works in the effected areas. They demanded of the international community to reach out to the help of the people.
Torrential rains and cyclonic winds have inflicted huge loses on the local population of the area damaging their houses thus leaving thousands stranded in open air.
Hafeez Baloch, regional coordinator Mekran division of Balochistan Development Consortium (BDC), a network of over 156 civil society organizations, while speaking to newsmen maintained that the government is not making adequate efforts in relief services. “We cannot leave the people of these areas at the mercy of the government. We know that the government is not capable enough to carry out massive relief operations in the area.” He appealed to international relief agencies, non-governmental organizations and other humanitarian organizations to reach out to the help of the people in the area.
The participants stood in front of the press club despite heavy downpour in the city. The placards got completely soaked in rainwater but the participants continued their demonstration.
