Four Drivers and Cleaners Kidnapped in Kachhi Plains

QUETTA: Four truck drivers were kidnapped on national highway near Dhaddar and Bhaktiarabad areas of Kachhi Plains on Wednesday.

According to sources, loaded truck carrying rice from Punjab to Taftan, a bordering township with Iran, was intercepted by armed men near Dhaddar area. The armed men took the driver Rehmatullah and cleaner Abdul Samad hostage at gun point and whisked them away to an unknown destination.

Soon after the incident, a large number of transporters gathered on the highway and staged a protest demonstration condemning the incident. They put up barricades and blocked the national highway for vehicular traffic. Tahsildar Levies force Dhaddar Mohammad Akbar reached the site after being informed and held talk with protestors. The protestors dispersed peacefully after assurance of early recovery of kidnapped drivers.

Another incident took place near Baktiarabad area when armed men intercepted a loaded truck and took the driver away at gun point. The driver was identified as Mohammad Yusuf who was driving from Mach to Punjab.

Similarly, few armed men intercepted a passenger van in the same area after few hours and took the driver away at gun point.

The victim has been identified as Nazir Ahmed, a resident of Kandh Kot.

All the cases have links with each others and are believed to be the cases of kidnapping for ransom, an official said.

It may be mentioned that it was the fourth incident during the current month in which drivers are being kidnapped.

Around 10 drivers were kidnapped during the past few months and some of them were released after paying hefty sum of money as ransom and some were got freed through utilizing tribal influence.
