QUETTA: A three-day fund raising camp for cyclone-stricken people of coastal areas has been set up by Social Work Department here in University of Balochistan from Monday in which faculty members and students generously contributed towards the noble cause.

“We make a sincere appeal to all academicians, staff members and students to generously help us in helping our affected brothers. They need our help at this critical juncture,” said Roohullah Baloch, a student of MA Social Work final year.

“Our effort is quite a meager one but in these three days we hope we would get a good response from all faculty members and students. They can provide blankets, edible items, garments, cash, medicine or other basic amenities which are emergently needed for relief of the people,” another student of the department, Rashid Raza, told The Baloch Hal.

Cyclone Phet had lashed Makran coast last week inflicting huge losses on the people of the coastal areas. Tens of thousands of people had been rendered homeless. In the aftermath of the cyclone the water sources have almost become contaminated thus making the local population vulnerable to many diseases.

The camp would last for next two days and would end on Wednesday. A team of the department comprising of teachers and students would go to the affected areas and help the victims of the cyclone.
