QUETTA: Chief Minister of Balochistan, Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani, has said that the provincial government was not ignorant about the flood affected areas of Mekran making all efforts to accommodate the cyclone victims.

He expressed these views during the Balochistan Assembly session on Monday. The session met under the chair of Speaker Aslam Boothani.

“Some people are just restricted their efforts in newspapers criticizing Provincial Government through statements,” he said adding that Government took precautionary measures, thus no huge human loss reported in the cyclone. “Because of bad weather I could not go to Gwadar during the past three days. Now the climate is clear and I will go to Gwadar today (Tuesday) and will talk to the affected people and then we could estimate the losses,” he said and adding that he has a meeting with Chairman of Pakistan Disaster Management Authority in which we would devise a strategy to tackle the problems.

Earlier, Independent MPA, Sardar Aslam Bizenjo raised the issue on Point of Order as saying that torrential rains accompanied with cyclonic winds had badly hit the Gwadar and Lasbela districts which caused dislocation of the large number of people. “Majority of the houses were collapsed and the announced allocation by provincial government is not enough, all of the government employees above than Grade 7 should allocate their one day’s salaries and there must be relief package for the flood affected people,” he told the House.

Mir Zahoor Bulaedai has said torrential rains accompanied with strong winds gusting 120 kilometers per hour destroyed 50 per cent houses in Gwadar and 50 big and small fishing vessels worth of millions of Rupees have been destroyed in the high tides. “The only source of income for the people was fishing and their boats are destroyed in the cyclone. It is the responsibility of the government to announce at least Rs one billion immediately for the displaced people,” he maintained and added “for the time being there was dire need of food and other necessities of life in the affected areas where people are living without food and clean drinking water.”

Minister for Industries, Syed Ehsan Shah said “There was huge loses reported but government is not having accurate figure, thus we could not estimate and start rehabilitation work.” Balochistan is not having enough resources to solely meet the huge loses and Federal Government and other provinces have to join hands with provincial government for rehabilitation works.

Other law makers Zamurak Khan Achakzai, Agha Irfan, Maulana Wasey and Shah Nawaz Marri also expressed grief and sorrow over the disaster in the coastal region demanding immediate measures for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the houses damaged in the downpour.

Talking to Point of Order, Sardar Aslam Bizenjo has said that a company headed by a former Army brigadier had taken amount of Rs 100 million from the previous government and after few days the company declared company bankrupt and embezzled the government money. He demanded an inquiry in to the matter.

“Government is well aware regarding this issue and would not leave any one to embezzle public money,” Chief Minister responded.

Two Bills had been tabled on the floor of the house. Minister Habib-ur-Rehaman Mohammad Hasni tabled “The Quetta Water and Sanitation Authority Act, 2004, for amendment and it shall be called “The Quetta Water and Sanitation Authority Act, 2010.
