Gwadar flood-victims start receiving relief money
GWADAR: The Cyclone affected people in Gwadar lost all hopes that the Government will increase the amount of relief money and finally they accepted the amount at last.
The Government had spared Rs 5000 assistance per family meeting their initial expenses following the devastating rains and floods earlier this month. At last, the highly annoyed people ended their protest and accepted the money from the Government on Sunday
There was no agitation on Sunday and women folks not taking the streets for any protest. It was all calm in Gwadar and people were orderly accepting the money and relief goods. However, eight people, including four Levies personnel and four women, were injured when the enraged people attacked the Levies Thana in Pishokan where relief items were kept in custody. They looted the consignment following an altercation with the law enforcers, eye witness accounts said.
Hospital sources said most of the gastro entities patients were discharged after treatment. Around 80 people, majority of them children, had suffered water borne diseases and had been discharged after medical treatment on Sunday.
According to sources, six C-130 transport planes, 15 trucks, two Fokker planes carrying relief goods reached Gwadar so far and distributed tents, medicines, edible items and other necessities of life among the affected people in different areas. The relief items were sent by government and other nongovernmental organizations.
However, the Federal Government is yet to announce the amount of assistance for cyclone victims of Balochistan Coast. The local authorities carried the survey in some parts of hardly hit areas of Mekran Coast and dispatched the figures to the concerned authorities for providing relief and rehabilitating the regional economy of Mekran and Lasbela.
