MPAs Go Berserk As Varification of BA Degress Reaches Quetta

QUETTA/ISLAMABAD: Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Education has asked the Election Commission of Pakistan Balochistan office to provide copies of graduation degrees of all 65 members of the Balochistan Assembly in the wake of instructions issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take action against such members of the parliament who presented fake degrees while contesting elections in February 2008.

Sources in the Election Commission of Pakistan Quetta office confirmed having received a request from the National Assembly Standing Committee on Education to provide the copies of educational certificates of all sixty-five members of Balochistan Assembly for verification. The Election Commission office in Quetta has complied with the request and provided the required documents which have also been passed to the Higher Education Commission for further verification.

Several minister and MPAs will face disqualification if their degrees are proved to be fake.

A lot of ministers and members of the Balochistan Assembly have initiated desperate efforts to avoid being caught for holding fake degrees as many of them are believed to have contested elections on the basis of graduation certificates from such institutions that they had actually never attended in their entire life. It was learnt that one of the female members of the provincial assembly had, interestingly, provided the graduation degree from one such educational institution of Sindh which only enrolls male students while many others have submitted degrees from religious schools in spite of never attending these educational institutions.
