National Party opposes imposition of Arabic at Balochistan schools

QUETTA: National Party (NP) has strongly opposed the decision of Balochistan government to introduce Arabic language from class one in all state-run and private schools up till class ten by billing it as an anti-Baloch step taken by the provincial government.
A statement issued here by the central spokesman of the National Party expressed “total surprise” over the Balochistan government’s decision to start from the next academic year teaching of Arabic language in all schools of the province.
The National Party said if the provincial government had decided to introduce Balochi, Bravi or Pashtu at the schools then such a decision would not only be understood but also widely appreciated by the local people and the political parties. One does not know what objectives the PPP-led government in Quetta wants to achieve at the cost of the local culture and languages. The spokesman regretted the silence of certain ministers in the provincial cabinet who claimed to be nationalists but did not express their displeasure and disapproval of the decision to introduce an alien language in Balochitan inside the schools.
“The government should promote indigenous languages,” demanded the NP spokesman.
