Quetta Express Coming from Rawalpindi Attacked in Quetta
QUETTA: Unidentified persons opened fire on a train, Quetta Express, on Sariab Road near the University of Balochistan on Thursday. However, no damage was caused to the train due to the firing incident. The attackers managed to run away after the police retaliated and fired again.
Official sources said the train was coming to Quetta from Rawalpindi which was seven hours late from its estimated time of arrival in Quetta. No passengers or train crew members were injured in the violent assault.
Authorities in Quetta said they were further investigating the matter.
Trains leaving from Quetta and coming to Balochistan have recently come under attack by Baloch nationalist armed groups which claim to be fighting for an independent Balochistan. Officials in Quetta had claimed last week to have foiled a major sabotage plan on a similar passenger train. However, no group has accepted responsibility for Thursday’s attack on Quetta Express.
