Seven killed, two injured in Kalat firing

KALAT: Seven people, including a local tribal elder, were ambushed and killed and two others suffered bullet wounds on RCD Highway in Surab area of Kalat district on Tuesday night.

According to sources, a vehicle carrying ten persons on his way to Anjera when unidentified armed men ambushed the vehicle and opened targeted fire on RCD highway in Naghad area of Surab.

As result of firing, five persons including tribal elder Mir Abdul Aziz Zehri, Mir Mohammad Noor, Mir Athaullah, Khudadad Zehri and Ali Ahmed Zehri died on the spot and five others sustained multiple bullet wounds.

Police party reached the site soon after being informed about the incident and took the dead bodies and the injured to the Civil Hospital Surab where two wounded men succumbed to their injuries. The injured stated to be in critical condition, hospital sources said.

Police have cordoned off the area following the incident and started the manhunt in the area. The incident took place as result of tribal clash, sources said.

Tension gripped the entire Zehri tribal area following massacre of seven tribesmen in a single ambush by their rivals. Security measures had been beefed up in the area to prevent any backlash, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Chief Minister, Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani, had strongly condemned the ambush and killing of seven people in Surab area and directed the law enforcing agencies to trace and arrest all the culprits responsible for man slaughter. The Chief Minister said that his Government would spare no efforts in arresting the culprits. He also condemned death of a man in Quetta. He too was a victim of target killing, sources said.
