Mengal Denounces Attack On Rashid Baloch, Calls For Shutter Down Strike

QUETTA: Central President of Balochistan National Party (BNP) and former Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal has strongly condemned the assassination attempt on the life of prominent Baloch student leader Rashid Baloch, who is also the vice chairman of the Baloch Students’ Organization and called for a complete shutter down strike to denounce the Saturday incident.

Sardar Mengal, while strongly condemning the assassination attempt on Rashid Baloch, blamed the government functionaries for what he billed as the  “ethnic cleansing of Baloch people”  and preventing them from participating in the Baloch political movement for national right.

The BNP chief extended full support to the shutter down strike call and asked the people to register their protest against the ethnic cleansing of Baloch people.

The news of attack on Rashid Baloch spread among the local people and political activists like the proverbial wild fire pushing the people out of their homes. They took to the streets immediately and suddenly an enraged mob attacked the local police station and burnt three police mobile vans parked inside the premises.

Some policemen opened fire on the emerged mob in order to deter them from further damaging the police station. There were no reports of injury to anyone as a result of the police firing.

The BSO and the Balochistan National Party (BNP) have called for a complete shutter down strike in protest against assassination attempt on Rashid Baloch, the most prominent student leader of Khuzdar.

Dr Jehanzeb Jamaldini, the acting president of Balochistan National Party, in a statement, termed the incident as an attempt to target kill the Baloch students and political activists. He also supported the shutter down strike call for Khuzdar and all its adjoining townships and human settlements.
