BHC Bench Shocked Over Jalib’s Killing

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court, while expressing sorrow over target killing of Habib Jalib, a senior Advocate and Secretary General of Balochistan National Party, has expected that Government will attend the matter of target killing with the seriousness that it deserves.

A bench of high court comprising Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Muhammad Noor Meskanzai passed these remarks during hearing of a suo motto case regarding incidents of target killings in Quetta.

The bench extended the interim order that was passed on 28.06.2010, restraining the Federal Government from issuing prohibited bore arms licenses on quota basis.

The court observed that Mr. Habib Jalib Advocate was rendering assistance in respect of this petition, however, it is noted with great sorrow that he is no longer with us today having himself fallen victim to assassins. “The free availability of illegal and unlicensed weapons is intolerable.  In the memory of the late Habib Jalib Advocate and to continue with his work against illegal and unlicensed weapons both the High Court Bar Association through its President Mr. H. Shakil Ahmed Advocate and the Balochistan Bar Council through its Vice President Mr. Nadir Ali Chalgari Advocate have come forward voluntarily to assist the Court and further to ensure that the concerns expressed by the late Habib Jalib Advocate see a positive outcome,” the bench added.

Adjourning the hearing of case the bench said “Suo Motto notice on the target killings, taking place had been taken and the matter was converted into the petition including the cold blooded murder of the late Walayat Hussain Advocate.  It is noted with great sorrow and heavy heart that another luminary of the Bar Mr. Habib Jalib Advocate was assassinated.  Under such circumstances we expect the official respondents to attend to this matter with the seriousness that it deserves.”
