Cloth market catches fire in Quetta
QUETTA: Over 150 shops and 9 vehicles were gutted when a fire erupted in old clothes market situated on Double Road on Sunday night.
According to details, a fire reportedly broke out in old cloth market. The fire later spread to neighbouring shops of carpets, blankets and old spare parts.
Two powerful blasts were also occurred in the market during fire. Police sources said these blasts were occurred due to bursting of two cylinders because of heavy fire.
According to initial reports over 150 shops were gutted because of fire in old clothes market besides damages to 5 garages and 9 vehicles. However, no casualty was occurred as most of shops were closed.
Fire fighters and large number of private tankers took part in the operation to extinguish the fire but they could not succeed to control the heavy fire immediately causing losses of millions of rupees to shopkeepers.
Two firefighters trying to put off the fire fainted and were rushed to the Civil Hospital Quetta for treatment.
Official sources said that an inquiry has been order to know the causes of fire and provincial government has announced that affected shopkeepers would be compensated.
