Flood Destroys Dozens of Homes In Harnai

SIBI: Dozens of mud houses have been submerged in Harnai area of Sibi District by flash floods on Tuesday which also devastated the railway track and communication lines in the area.

According to reports reaching here, the rain which had started on Monday, continued until Tuesday afternoon in Harnai and its surrounding areas, mainly the upper reaches of the township.

The flood washed away several houses and railway tracks. Hundreds of people have been rendered homeless as their mud houses were collapsed due to unabated rains and flash floods from nearby hills.

The affected towns includ Kili Marpan, Killi Zabkan, Khorasgi and Tezrak where the local residents were reported as saying that hill torrents had  caused huge devastation. The water supply line was also washed away in the area which caused a scarcity of clean drinking water.

Sources said Railway tracks from different places had been destroyed or washed away disrupting the train services. Hundreds of acres of agriculture land was also affected during the heavy rains.

Local journalists said seasonal rivers are in high spate and posing threats to the localities and suggested for immediate construction of protection walls.

The rains have also washed away the historic Red Bridge and destroyed several shops.  The local Irrigation Department has been put on high alert to look into the matter.

No rescue teams have arrived in the area yet in spite of a possibility of deterioration in the situation.
