Gadani Ship-breaking Workers Stage Protest Demonstration

KARACHI: Labourers of the Gadani ship-breaking site staged a protest demonstration against their manhandling by police, arrest of their leaders, hooliganism of contractors and in favour of their lingering demands outside the Karachi Press Club, on Tuesday.

Infuriated protesters carried placards and chanted slogans against the Gadani police station SHO and contractors of the ship-breaking industry. Addressing the demonstration, their leaders said the ship-breaking workers were working in very harsh conditions in Gadani. They said that workers were being exploited by the contractors of the industry and deprived of basic necessities and fundamentals rights.

They also condemned the baton-charge of police while they were observing a strike and the arrest of their leaders. They said their strike would continue till their demands were met. They also warned to block the Quetta-Karachi highway.
