The Baloch Hal News

QUETTA: A strike call given by the Zamindar Action Committee in Chaman District disrupted the supply of logistics items to NATO forces deployed in Afghanistan for the second day on Friday.

A large number of growers stopped the NATO supply containers and trailers from different places on RCD highway from Hub Town to Chaman, bordering area with Afghanistan, protesting against the massive load shedding in the province. The strike has begun from Thursday morning which made long queue of containers and trailers on highway.

“If the hours of load shedding were not reduced the strike would be continued,” Chairman of Zamindar Action Committee Taj Mohammad told Express Tribune. The protestors are only stopping NATO supplies to force the government end the power outage. The massive power cut had badly affected the standing crops, he said.

Currently ten hours of load shedding is being carried out in provincial capital and 18 to 20 hours in rural areas. “Only 350 Mega Watt is available and the need is 1200 MW, said QESCO Chief Executive, Shafiq Khattak adding that 15 power pylons had been blown up as result of subversive activities during the past one month causing millions of rupees losses. “It is irony that around 70 kilometers conductor had been stolen from Chattar area of the Balochistan causing massive power cut in the province,” he said.

According to Press release issued here on Friday, the Qesco and NTDC staffs are busy in repair works which would take five to six days then the shortfall would be reduced.

The Managing Director of Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) is due visit to Quetta today on Saturday, during which he would meet the representatives of Zamindar Action Committee.
