Rains Wreck Havoc in Balochistan

QUETTA: Commissioner Zhob Division Mir Ikhtiar Khan Bangalzai said that flash flood in Hun stream passing between Barkhan and Kohlu killed dozens people while over 20 went missing.

Talking to the media on Thursday, he said that flash floods completely devastated three village including Sagiali, Naharkot and Watakri. He maintained that divers had pulled out seven bodies, including four women and two children, from flood water.

He said that incessant spree of rains had been intermittently lashing various parts of Balochistan since Wednesday.

He maintained that Provincial Disaster Management Authority, district administration and law enforcement agencies had been taking part in the relief operation in torrential rains-hit areas. He added that hundreds of houses had collapsed in those areas.

To a question, the Commissioner said that helicopters were also shifting people trapped in flood waters to safe places. He noted that land links of affected three villages and adjoining areas were disconnected with other parts of the country. He said that aerial survey of the flood-hit areas was continued. He feared number of casualties might be surged.

Meanwhile, PDMA has confirmed that at least 30 people had lost their lives in flash flood in Balochistan.

Separately, APP Sibbi correspondent reported that flash flood in Nari River had inundated villages including Koh Machhi, Talli and Lehri. Two persons including a woman and a minor girl died and six others were injured in rain and flash flood related incidents. The flesh flood also caused demolition of hundreds of houses in these areas.

The heavy downpours too injured eight persons including women in Kachhi, Naseerabad and Jaffarabad districts.

Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani has directed the relevant authorities to accelerate the relief operation besides ensuring shifting of victim people to safe places.
